Economics of Film Discussion to Highlight Panel Lineup at 14th Annual On Location: MEMPHIS International Film & Music Fest

Five panels featuring a variety of local and national players in the film industry will be held throughout the weekend during the On Location: MEMPHIS International Film & Music Fest on the weekend of April 25th-28th.

Headlining the panel lineup is “FuelFilm Presents: The Film Industry – A Global Economic Development Engine. Taking place at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 27th, the panel will feature a number of government, civic, and entertainment industry leaders.

The modern film industry has become a global economic force that generates billions of dollars in revenue, creates jobs and opportunities, and allows storytelling through imagery and sound that transcends cultural barriers and crosses national borders. For decades the film industry has fostered creative minds and new technologies that have brought entertainment and innovation into every home and the ability to tell stories into every life. This panel will discuss the current state of the film industry in the region and efforts to foster the industry in the Southeast.

“Not only can filmmaking change lives through storytelling, it can also do so in a very tangible way in the jobs it creates and the money the industry brings to a region,” said FuelFilm co-founder David Merrill. It’s important that we talk about how filmmaking can shape the economic landscape for the better here in Memphis and the region as a whole.

Meanwhile, “Acting in Your Golden Years” is slated for 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26th as part of the festival’s Cinema for Seniors program. The panel asks the question,” is there an age that is ‘too old to start you acting career?” Seasoned professionals from the screen and stage will share behind-the-scenes stories from their acting endeavors.

“Win $50,000 For Your Short Film” takes place on Saturday, April 27th at 3:15 p.m. and is hosted by Gregory Kallenberg – founder of the Louisiana Film Prize. “Creating Creepy FX,” a revealing look at creating shocking special effects, rounds out Saturday’s panel lineup at 8:00 p.m.
