Throughout its history, the city of Memphis has embraced creativity and provided artists with a haven to showcase their work. Now filmmakers have yet another way to get their films screened in the Bluff City with the announcement of the 1st Annual On Location: MEMPHIS Shorts Festival.
The program will take place at the Hard Rock Cafe Memphis on historic Beale Street each Tuesday night in July 2015. Three categories – Live Action Shorts, Animation Shorts and Documentary Shorts – will be spotlighted throughout the month, with one genre being screened each week. The audience on hand will complete review forms to select a favorite, with the winner of each genre automatically receiving a spot in the 16th Annual On Location: MEMPHIS International Film & Music Fest in September. An awards night for the shorts program will take place during the last Tuesday in July.
“This is a great opportunity for filmmakers to put their work in front of a larger audience, and it gives us at OL:M a chance to screen more films than we have ever been capable of before,” On Location: MEMPHIS President Angela Green said. “We’re really looking forward to seeing some great films during the hot Memphis summer.”
Films may be submitted through FilmFreeway starting December 1; filmmakers will be notified by April 30, 2015. Films do not have to be a world premiere, but should not have a distribution deal in place. A submissions link can be found on the On Location website under the “OL:M Shorts Festival
