It’s been a year of firsts for On Location: MEMPHIS (OL:M), and another is slated for this July in the form of the organization’s inaugural shorts-only program at the Hard Rock Cafe in the Bluff City.
Filmmakers from around the globe submitted their works to be considered for the OL:M Shorts Festival, which were culled to just 13 titles representing six countries. The festival is made up of three categories: Documentary, Animation, and Live Action. Every Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in July a different category will be showcased at the Hard Rock Cafe on historic Beale Street, with each night’s audience choice granted automatic entry into the 16th Annual On Location: MEMPHIS International Film & Music Festival in September.
“Hard Rock Cafe is looking forward to the partnership with OL:M,” said Holly Smith, Sales and Marketing Manager for Hard Rock Cafe Memphis. “This is an opportunity for Hard Rockers to step out from behind the grill and the mic, and showcase a unique and new Memphis festival!”
Short Documentary works will be featured on July 7, Animation Shorts are planned for July 14, and Live Action Shorts will make up the programming on July 21. The top films from each category will then be screened on July 28. Live music is scheduled for each evening as well. The film lineup is currently available at: http://onlocationmemphis.org/location-memphis-shorts-festival. Admission to the Shorts Festival is free—dinner is not included.
“Our goal with the Shorts Festival is to provide an outlet where filmmakers can screen their work and receive audience feedback in a relaxed atmosphere,” explained OL:M Executive Director Angela Green. “We’re thrilled to partner with a unique venue like the Hard Rock Cafe for this program, and are happy to give film fans a place to see some great creativity during the hot and humid Memphis summer.”
