J.A. Farmer Consulting, radio veteran and screenwriter Christie Taylor, and On Location: MEMPHIS are proud to present a one-night, free screening of The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution, a 2015 Sundance Film Festival Official Selection.
At 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 12, a unique time in American history will take center stage at Malco Studio on the Square. The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution is a stirring new documentary by Stanley Nelson that provides a definitive history of the divisive and sometimes radical group. Nelson goes straight to the source to tell the story, utilizing both rare archival footage and voices of people who were part of the revolution: police officers, FBI informants, private citizens and Black Panthers themselves.
“In hopes of shaping a new collective voice for the Greater Memphis Community, we are excited to present the first in a series of screening events in support of diversity programming,” said J.A Farmer. “The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution is both historical and 21st century-relevant at the same time. We encourage the community to join us, engage in the conversation, be part of the solution and forge ahead with renewed passion.”
The documentary tells of the rise and fall of the Black Panther Party, one of the 20th century’s most alluring and controversial organizations that captivated the world’s attention for nearly 50 years.
“After several years away furthering my film career, I am excited to now partner with J.A. Farmer Consulting and On Location: MEMPHIS to present high-quality events and screenings like this one, said media veteran Taylor, who is also a produced co-screenwriter of N-Secure. “This is just the beginning of amazing film industry events we will present to foster our film community.”
On Location: MEMPHIS Executive Director, Angela Green, added, “We’re very proud to bring this film to Memphis, both for its content and critical acclaim. In today’s turbulent America, this film provides a way to learn about the the past so we can better understand the present.”
